Setting?  Where and when does this take place?  (Is this significant?)
Point of view?  Who is telling the story?  Is there a first person narrator—that is, one of the characters in the story telling the story?  Or does it seem to be a “voice” from outside the story?  If so, does this narrator let us know what multiple characters are thinking or feeling?  (Third person omniscient.)  Or does the narrator seem to limit the perspective to one character’s feelings or thoughts.  (Third person limited.)
What is the central conflict? 
How well developed are the characters?  (This might be hard to answer since the selections are brief.)  Do these characters seem “real” (“three dimensional”) to you?  Or are they shallow or flat (“two dimensional”)?
What about audience?  Do you have a sense of age appropriateness?
Are there signficant themes or ideas here?  (What is the piece “about”?  What is the writer trying to get at?)
Are there adults in the selection?  If so, what role do they play?  Are they helpful, supportive?  Or are they part of the problem?When writing logs, think about these things:Try to make connections – with the introductory section, with other selections, with past experience, etc.
