Describe the processes of research data collection and analysis techniques used in the production of published evidence
Define the quality of published research evidence through the use of critical appraisal tools and complete basic data analysis

What am I required to do in this assignment?

Part: (1500 words +/-)
You will be required to complete three sections of a work book that will be available on BREO.
Section 1 & 2 is to demonstrate an awareness and practice of critical appraisal of sources of evidence and write up the introduction to a practical session and methods used to collect data in a practical session
Section 3 To write up a results section and basic summary of the data collected and analysed. You will also find 3 different sources of information related to the topic under investigation (quantitative or qualitative research) (e.g. one peer reviewed journal, one text book, and one government publication) that you can use in your interpretation and summary of the quantitative data to provide a meaningful summary.
Tutors will provide you with context in seminars and associated practical sessions.

What do I need to do to pass? (Threshold Expectations from UIF)

In order to pass Assessment 2 you will need to:

Be able to outline specific methods that were adopted in the practical session to collect the data (Equipment, participants, methods, measurements, processes).
Produce appropriate graphs, descriptions of results and adhere to convention of format when presenting the results section.
Apply the appropriate analysis technique to the data collected, based upon knowledge of research design, to produce descriptive statistics and a test for difference or correlation.

Identify 3 different sources of evidence that allow you to provide context to the results of your data collection exercise. Identification of what you measured, why this measurement may be useful in Therapy or research, what questions do they results help you answer and could you improve the process.
Describe the results of the basic data sets and appropriately summarise them to a wider audience

How do I produce high quality work that merits a good grade?

Engage with every taught session so that you develop your understanding of 18 research and utilise the critical appraisal tool that you have used in class. Practice critical appraisal on the 4 articles being used in your groups, in seminars, and practice independent critical appraisal on the 5th article, which is on BREO. This will allow you to identify what you don’t understand and so allow you to seek the help you need.
Your work should include the following sections:
Section 1 & 2

Title:
Introduction:
Research Design: (State the research question, design (did you look at differences or correlation, repeated the tests or once), state the statistics you used to analyse the data)
Methods:

Section 3

Results
Summary
References:
Appendices: (if appropriate)

How does this assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions?

Your lectures will provide overview of the scientific research process through critical analysis and report writing and disseminating the information. Your seminars will help you understand how and why certain aspects of the research process must be fulfilled with tasks that relate to your report.

How will my assignment be marked?

Your assignment will be marked according to the threshold expectations and the criteria on the following page.
You can use them to evaluate your own work and consider your grade before you submit.
