An Agenda for The Future of Global Business.
The article main focus is on the future of global business. According to the authors, the world is at a better place in terms of connectivity and mobility as compared to 20 years ago. This has been made possible by technology that has enriched our lives, globalization that has brought growth and prosperity and returns from shareholders that has brought society growth and business productivity. However, challenges have been encountered from these three factors and from globalization perspective, traditionally businesses were allowed to carry out their activity and bring society growth freely as long as economic inequality was maintained within sensible levels by the government. However, due to increase economic inequality in western societies and other countries in the globe, these measures has been overlooked (Reeves and Harnoss).
According to the authors, much more people might not agree on fixing the problem, globalization is not beneficial if economic inequality is overlooked. However, they advise that, business leaders need to take the responsibility of shaping the conditions of future success through emphasizing on equal access to economic opportunities. They also need to balance the two conflicting objectives; the securing of their businesses prosperity and securing the conditions for sustained prosperity (Reeves and Harnoss). This requires them to employ a technique that includes the technological progress and global economic integration. The business leaders are expected to support the new agenda of going beyond political activism and focusing on economic growth through choosing to balance short-term returns with supporting society and economic progress for long-term strengthening of enterprises (Reeves and Harnoss).
The reason as to why I chose this article is because as a future business person, I wanted to know the future prospects of global business. Through connecting this article idea with what I learnt in class, in global business, government must be involved in order to protect its local companies from foreign competition and help them compete internationally. However, if this is overlooked, businesses suffer and it is up-to the domestic industries to come up with strategies for survival. Therefore, as an aspiring international business person, I must be prepared for such uncertainties and know the tactics for survival
