Describe Black women’s challenges and experiences navigating society as compared to white women. Include significant historical and current factors (norms, laws, policies, mores, behaviors) that contribute, or disrupt (i.e. help), their challenges and experiences. How does patriarchy influence the different experiences of women of color?
Discuss factors that made it necessary for Black women to create their own feminist movement. Include challenges and experiences for them across time.
What opportunities did white feminists lose by excluding women of color? What do they lose now by continuing to exclude them? Address the opportunities that open up when all women are included. Refer to historical patterns of behavior (from the literature in this, and past units), as well as current ones.
