What are the advantages and disadvantages of transporting product via pipeline? Research the web and supply the name, website, and the basic mission statement for three (3) companies that are involved in the pipeline industry. Compare the three companies to each other based on this information.

Pipelines are defined as a line of pipe with pumps, valves, and control devices for conveying liquids, gases, or finely divided solids. When talking about pipelines first think that’s going to come to mind is the pipeline in the Dakotas. Pipelines have their advantages and disadvantages. Let’s take a look at some advantages of pipelines, its safe, reliable mode of transit, minimum transit loss, the ability to transport large amounts of product, cleaner emissions, and it’s more economic and dependable even in sensitives and strategic areas.  Disadvantages of moving product via pipeline, slow and time-consuming, hard to keep the exact location of the product in transit, it makes for the illegal product to be moved easier. There are major companies that use pipelines, but these three pipelines stick out the most to me.

When comparing the three companies, they have described the same thing just different wording, and purpose is to provide the best service.

The advantages of transporting product via pipeline is that it is easier to operate and cost to operate is low. Because of the capacity of the oil tanker being so large, the transportation of oil efficiency is very high, it is a continuously moving and does not interfere with the flow of oil or gas because of limitations of storage facilities. It is also environmental friendly and uses less energy than trucks or trains.
The disadvantages of transporting product via pipeline is that the pipelines are buried so deep within the ground or ocean that it sometimes becomes difficult for inspections and maintenance against things such as wind, waves, tides, and ice in tidal range or wave breaking zones. The capacity can not be increased once it is laid and it is also difficult to detect leakage.
