Assignment 1 (this assignment has two parts, but submit only ONE paper to the assignment 1 dropbox through blackboard). Be sure to check the due date and submit BEFORE that time! This assignment should be at least SIX pages or more in length total-at least three pages should be on part one. Check the editions of your textbook and read chapters for:
Part 1 – Describe in detail an ongoing conflict that you are currently experiencing between yourself and another person (an interpersonal conflict of some magnitude). Explain how this conflict between you and this person negatively affects your life. Discuss how the conflict makes you feel and your general analysis of the reasons for the conflict. Why is the conflict taking place? Take a few minutes and give this some real thought. (BE SURE TO KEEP A COPY OF THIS ASSIGNMENT, AS YOU WILL REFER TO IT IN OTHER ASSIGNMENTS. I will not be able to email a copy back to you, so you must keep a copy to refer back to for future assignments.)
Part 2 –  Each answer should be a minimum of a complete paragraph and some may require more. Be sure to fully answer the question with a reference to the chapter content as well as your own thoughts and insights.
Critical Thinking Questions
1.  In this age of multiculturalism, how do you feel about Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution?  The relevant sections reads: “No person except a natural-born citizen, or citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President.”
2.  It’s been argued that in the United States women are more likely to view themselves as interdependents, having a more collectivist orientation, whereas men are more likely to view themselves as independents, having a more individualist orientation.  Does your experience support this?
3.  Informal time terms seem to create communication problems because they’re ambiguous; different people will often give the terms different meanings.  How might you go about reducing or eliminating the ambiguity created by these terms?
4.  You’re more likely to help someone who is similar to you in race, attitude, and general appearance.  Even the same first name is significant.  For example, when an e-mail (asking receivers to fill out surveys of their food habits) identified the sender as having the same name as the receiver, there was a greater willingness to comply with the request.  Do you think people do react this way, and if so, why?  Do you do this?
This assignment (both parts) should be AT LEAST SIX (6) FULL pages in length, double-spaced using a 12 point font –  Please use complete sentences. If YOU DO not use a 12 point font and use wider margins, you MUST a minimum of five pages or you will lose points. Proper use of paragraphs is expected. Your margins should be somewhat standard – what I mean by that is: if your margins are set to limit each line to a couple of words in the middle of the page, you will be counted off. One page of writing should be a complete page of writing. Please place your name in the lower left corner of the last page AND remember to submit your work in a word document format for grading (no word perfect, etc) You will be counted off for misspellings.
This paper will be graded using the following criteria:
Format – 2 points
Grammar, spelling, use of paragraphs, etc. – 5 points
Content and following assignment – 58 points
Total possible points – 65
