Hello class,
Union jobs were created to help those in America who needed stable jobs that were organized and served as a good source of job security. Unions in the past were good because of the conditions that many people had to go through that were not safe and up to the proper standard. Union jobs lead to better wages and helped people be able to make more money. This lead to a bigger middle-class section in society when many people were struggling to make enough money. A huge thing that unions created are the vast benefits that they were given. Having medical benefits are extremely important due to the insanely high rates that normal medical benefits cost. Personally, having medical benefits is a necessity that everyone should be able to have. Having job security is a huge pro when it comes to having a union job. The people who work in the union know that they are in a safe job environment and will be able to have a steady paycheck. With all of these benefits that have come from unions, there are many things about them that are not good in today’s society. Unions are known for having strikes because they feel like they aren’t getting enough pay. This hurts the companies and makes them look like they treat their workers unfair. Even if the workers are getting paid well, they have the freedom to go on strike so that they get what they want. Unions have initiation fees that are several hundred dollars a year. Unions also lead to people becoming one large group and lead to the lack of a person having their own opinions. When people make a decision in them, everyone has to follow through with it. They have also made working in a union a very good job to have that someone can retire in.
